PR2 presents “Path of pins” of Nadja Ellinger

A photography revisitation of “Red hood” tale by the young german artist, inspired by folkloristic traditions

The PR2 Exhibition Space hosts, from 24 September to 10 October 2021, the photographic exhibition “Path of pins”, by the young German author Nadja Ellinger. The project is part of the SPAZIO30 project which offers the opportunity to artists, curators and creatives to carry out their own artistic project in the PR2 exhibition space.

Nadja Ellinger‘s work “Path of pins” is based on the narrative and retelling processes of folkloristic tales. In fact, each fairy tale, in its multiple versions, consolidates and absorbs new cultural aspects of the social groups to which they belong.
“Path of Pins” is, therefore, a visual and personal reinterpretation of Little Red Riding Hood, whose central theme is the awakening of a primordial femininity. The intention is to develop new narrative structures, alternatives to “universally recognized” truths to open up to a range of interpretations.

In some oral versions of the fairy tale – which later inspired Perrault for writing the famous “Petit Chaperon Rouge” – Little Riding Hood is asked to choose between two paths: that of needles and that of pins, both symbolically connected to the transition to adulthood. The needles recall the home environment and sewing work, while the pins are a symbol of courtship by the boys.

Through a dynamic interpretation of photography, Nadja wants to give the young heroine a new chance, guiding her on a journey through the subconscious and the game – often forgotten by adults – to discover her feminine identity.
